CATCO offers three paid Apprenticeships, one in costuming, one in lighting and sound, and one in stage management:
The Apprenticeships are designed to help recent college graduates bridge the gap between the academic and professional worlds. They are full-season, full-time experiences that are custom-tailored to best serve the individual apprentice while meeting the needs of the company.
COSTUME APPRENTICESHIP: The Apprentice will assist the Costume Studio Manager in all areas of costume construction, fitting, and maintenance, as well as serving as wardrobe master for several productions during the season. The Apprentice will have the opportunity to see the design and execution processes from the beginning through strike, will work with a variety of professional designers, and will have the opportunity to act as assistant designer for at least one production. The Apprentice will also have responsibilities that will include work in the areas of lighting, sound, administration, and run crews, although the primary focus will be costume construction. We tailor our program to address the interests of our Apprentices and provide opportunities that will challenge and strengthen their technical, creative, and problem solving skills.
TECHNICAL APPRENTICESHIP: The Apprentice will assist the Master Electrician/Sound Engineer in all areas sound and lighting, as well as serving as run crew for several productions during the season. The Apprentice will have the opportunity to see the design and execution processes from the beginning through strike and will work with a variety of professional designers. The Apprentice will have opportunities and responsibilities with both the main stage and children’s productions. The Apprentice will also have responsibilities that will include work in the areas of scenery, props, and administration although the primary focus will be lighting and sound. We tailor our program to address the interests of our Apprentices and provide opportunities that will challenge and strengthen their technical, creative, and problem solving skills.
STAGE MANAGEMENT APPRENTICESHIP: The Apprentice will assist the Staff Equity Stage Manager in all aspects of managing our five-show season. The Apprentice will have the opportunity to see the production processes from the beginning through strike, will work with a variety of professional designers, actors, and directors, and will have the opportunity to experience the workings of an Equity theatre. The Apprentice will act as Assistant Stage Manager for the majority of the season, and will be eligible to earn points towards Equity Membership. The Apprentice will also have responsibilities that will include work in the areas of lighting, sound, administration, and run crews, although the primary focus will be stage management. We tailor our program to address the interests of our Apprentices and provide opportunities that will challenge and strengthen their technical, creative, and problem solving skills.
The Apprenticeships are full-time, full season ( September-June), and carry a $260.00 weekly stipend. Housing is not provided. If you wish to apply please email a cover letter, resume, and 3 references to:
